To better understand the mechanism of QWO, it’s important to first know some basics about cellulite.
QWO is the first and only FDA-approved injectable used to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Made up of enzymes called collagenases, QWO is believed to break down the buildup of collagen in the fibrous bands.
It’s important to keep in mind that QWO treats cellulite and not skin laxity. Skin laxity is caused by a loss of collagen and/or elastin that then loosens the skin.
Prior to your first treatment, make sure to set up an appointment to ensure that you are a QWO candidate.
To administer QWO, Dr. Joni injects it directly into the cellulite dimples on the buttocks — up to 12 injections for a small treatment, or 24 injections a large treatment. Once injected, the enzyme in QWO starts doing its magic and targets the collagen buildup causing the dimples.
One of the most common side effects of QWO is bruising and discoloration on or near the injection sites. After each treatment, bruising lessens and should completely resolve within 21 days.
We always want to make sure you're healing nicely so prior to leaving the office be prepared to schedule a 2 week follow-up with Dr. Joni.
For optimal results, it is recommended to get a series of 3 treatments, each 21 days apart.
